Our client is seeking a highly experienced and passionate Head Catering Chef to lead their culinary operations in Leeds, West Yorkshire, UK . This is a pivotal role responsible for delivering exceptional food quality and service across a variety of events and functions. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in a similar high-volume catering environment, with a strong understanding of menu planning, costing, and food safety regulations.
Responsibilities:
Oversee all kitchen operations, including food preparation, cooking, and presentation. Develop creative and seasonal menus, considering client requirements, dietary needs, and current culinary trends. Manage and mentor the kitchen team, fostering a positive and productive work environment. Ensure strict adherence to food safety and hygiene standards (HACCP, COSHH). Control food costs through effective inventory management, supplier negotiation, and waste reduction strategies. Collaborate with the events and front-of-house teams to ensure seamless service delivery. Maintain high standards of quality and consistency in all dishes served. Conduct regular stock takes and manage ingredient procurement. Handle client consultations regarding menu options and special requests. Ensure all equipment is maintained in good working order and report any issues promptly.
Qualifications:
Extensive experience as a Chef de Partie, Sous Chef, or Head Chef within a catering or hospitality setting. Demonstrable expertise in menu creation, food costing, and budget management. In-depth knowledge of diverse cooking techniques and cuisines. Strong leadership and team management skills. Excellent understanding of food safety legislation and best practices. Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment. Creative flair and a passion for high-quality food. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Relevant culinary qualifications (e.g., NVQ Level 3 in Professional Cookery) are highly desirable. Flexibility to work varied hours, including evenings and weekends, as required by event schedules.
