The Food Technician ensures food safety and quality standards across departments, working closely with the QA / Health & Safety Manager and operations staff.

Job Description

Job Title: Quality Assurance Technician

Hours of Work:

• 40 hours per week
• 8:00am – 5:00pm with an hour of breaks (hours negotiable)
• Main contracted days Monday – Friday

Holidays: 25 Annual Holidays + 3 Bank Holidays (New Year’s Day, Christmas Day, Boxing Day)

Salary: £33,320 per annum

Description:
The Quality Assurance Technician will work directly with the Quality Assurance / Health & Safety Manager focusing on quality assurance and food safety matters across the Company. This includes areas such as Butchery and Fresh Fruit & Vegetable Department. The role may also include assisting with Health & Safety duties and requires willingness to undertake training to further knowledge in food safety and potentially Health & Safety (IOSH).

Responsibilities:

• Design, implement, maintain, and improve company procedures
• Ensure specifications are up to date and maintained efficiently
• Collaborate with external suppliers to ensure they meet quality standards
• Collaborate with external accreditation bodies to meet required standards
• Follow regulations to ensure compliance with food safety law and guidelines
• Ensure customer complaints are dealt with in a timely manner
• Work with operations staff to establish procedures, standards, and systems
• Maintain records of all test results, inspection findings, and corrective actions
• Calibrate and operate equipment to ensure accurate results and reliable testing
• Conduct routine tests on raw materials, process items, and finished products
• Encourage change and improvement in performance and quality
• Complete internal audits

Essential Requirements:

• Strong understanding of HACCP, TACCP, and VACCP principles
• In-depth knowledge of BRCGS Food Safety Standard (latest version) and Food Safety legislation
• Microbiological knowledge
• Ability to analyse data and create and review processes
• Computer literate
• Effective communication skills internally and externally
• Ability to work independently and in a team
• Exceptional attention to detail
• Comfortable working in a cold environment
