Accountable to the Engineering Workshop Manager in the School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, the Fabrication and Welding Technician delivers expert technical assistance to faculty, researchers, and students in aid of educational and research initiatives.
During the first year of employment, the position will shift from the initial core duties, defined in primary activities 1 through 5, toward the comprehensive scope of the Fabrication and Welding Technician designation as outlined in the full profile.
About the person:
The chosen applicant is required to possess, and must explicitly show within their application, the following vital qualifications:
• Educational or professional credentials such as OND/ONC and/or NVQ Level 3 in welding/fabrication (or a comparable alternative); or a finished apprenticeship through an accredited college or industrial setting.
• Current and applicable experience following qualification or apprenticeship within a welding/fabrication setting, including:
• Interpretation of technical engineering schematics.
• Welding operations – Mastery of TIG welding techniques on aluminum, stainless steel, and various other metals.
• Folding, forming, and rolling of sheet materials.
• Background in workshop settings with a clear grasp of essential safety protocols and procedures.
• Upkeep of tools and industrial workshop equipment.
• History of instructing individuals on the operation of machinery or technical tasks within an engineering context.
