In this role, you will be at the forefront of managing and extending the life of ageing, safety-critical assets. From pressure vessels and rotating machinery to entire power stations, you will tackle the toughest engineering challenges using advanced numerical methods and code-based assessments. As an engineering consultant, you will bridge the gap between deep technical analysis and commercial strategy, acting as a trusted advisor to clients across the energy, process, and maritime sectors.
Key Responsibilities
-
Asset Life Extension: Conduct condition assessments and develop strategies for high-value, safety-critical assets to ensure continued safe operation.
-
Advanced Analysis: Perform high-end Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to evaluate stress, fatigue, and fracture mechanics.
-
Fitness-for-Service: Apply industry codes (e.g., API 579, BS 7910) to determine the structural integrity of components containing flaws or damage.
-
Failure Investigation: Lead plant investigations and failure analysis to diagnose root causes of defects in rotating equipment or pipework.
-
Consultancy & Business Winning: Support the full project lifecycle, from initial client engagement and bid development to technical delivery and mentoring junior staff.
-
Site Engagement: Conduct plant walkdowns and site visits to gather real-world data and foster strong client relationships.
Requirements
Technical & Educational:
-
Education: A degree in Engineering (MEng, MSc, or PhD).
-
FEA Proficiency: Hands-on experience with Abaqus, Ansys, or LS-Dyna.
-
Codes & Standards: Familiarity with ASME III/VIII, R5/R6, BS 7608, and related structural integrity frameworks.

The Structural Integrity Landscape
In 2026, the transition to Net Zero is placing unprecedented demand on structural integrity engineers:
-
Hydrogen Transition: Engineers are increasingly assessing the suitability of existing gas networks and vessels for Hydrogen embrittlement, requiring advanced fracture mechanics.
-
Nuclear Renaissance: With the UK’s commitment to new nuclear and SMRs (Small Modular Reactors), the application of ASME III and high-temperature creep-fatigue analysis is a critical growth area.
