Advanced/Enhanced Clinical Fellow in Endoscopy

Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust is offering a prestigious 12-month Fellowship in Advanced Endoscopy. This role is ideally suited for a Gastroenterologist nearing the completion of their specialist training (ST6/ST7) or seeking an Out of Programme Experience (OOPE) to sub-specialise.

With 11 procedure rooms across three sites—including the state-of-the-art Heatherwood Hospital, recently accredited by the GIRFT programme—this post provides an exceptional volume of complex cases and high-caliber mentorship.

Core Requirements and Skills

  • Professional Registration: Full GMC Registration with a licence to practice.

  • Qualifications: MBBS (or equivalent), MRCP, and JAG accreditation in OGD (Essential).

  • Clinical Expertise: Competence in diagnostic upper GI endoscopy, flexible sigmoidoscopy, and colonoscopy. JAG accreditation in colonoscopy is highly desirable.

  • UK Experience: Previous experience working within the NHS to offer clinical opinions on a range of Gastroenterology problems.

  • Academic Interest: A clear interest in audit, research, and leadership, with an emphasis on contributing to the department’s JAG-accredited training goals.

Fellowship & Training Opportunities

This post is designed to move a senior trainee toward independent practice in advanced therapeutic techniques. Training opportunities include:

  • Upper GI: Oesophageal RFA (HALO), Upper GI EMR, and single balloon enteroscopy.

  • Lower GI: Colonic EMR, complex dilatations, and full-thickness resection.

  • Diagnostics: Capsule endoscopy.

  • Training Role: Contribution to the delivery of departmental JAG courses and teaching junior trainees.

Weekly Session Allocation (The “10-Session” Week)

The post-holder will follow a balanced timetable focused on both service delivery and advanced skill acquisition:
