Education Mentor — Milton Keynes

Sense learning

Job Description

The Role: Education Mentor

Are you ready to transition into an “impact-first” career? SENse Learning is offering a unique opportunity for passionate mentors to support the most in-need young people in Milton Keynes. As an Education Mentor, you will provide bespoke, one-to-one support for students who are often disengaged from traditional schooling. This isn’t just about academics—it’s about building confidence, emotional regulation, and essential life skills in an environment where the student feels safest.

Why This Role is Different

SENse Learning is a leader in Alternative Provision. We don’t believe in a “one size fits all” education. Our mentors work directly in students’ homes and out in the community, crafting holistic learning packages tailored to each child’s interests and complex needs. You will be part of a forward-thinking community that ensures no student is left behind.

Your Benefits

  • Competitive Pay: £18 – £23 per hour.

  • Total Flexibility: Design your own schedule (part-time to full-time) and choose between in-person, hybrid, or community-based sessions.

  • Professional Support: You aren’t alone; we provide a dedicated “team around you” for pastoral and pathways support.

  • Meaningful Impact: Directly support children with ASC, ADHD, SEMH, and trauma backgrounds.

  • Growth: Access to company events, knowledge-sharing resources, and a tutor referral programme.

Candidate Requirements

  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years working with children/young people with complex additional needs (e.g., Trauma, PDA, EBSA, Mental Health).

  • Background: Ideal for TAs, LSAs, Support Workers, Youth Workers, or ex-teachers.

  • Mindset: A child-centered, creative approach with the ingenuity to adapt curriculum to individual interests.

  • Compliance: Must have the Right to Work in the UK, an Enhanced DBS (assistance provided), and 2+ professional references.

The pay rate (£18–£23/hr) is considerably higher than standard TA wages, reflecting the specialist nature of 1:1 trauma-informed mentoring. It is perfect for a professional who feels stifled by rigid school structures and wants the autonomy to actually change a child’s life through creativity.
