Department for Science, Innovation and Technology
DSIT College of Experts – Department for Science, Innovation and Technology
The Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT) is expanding its College of Experts, a prestigious network of independent specialists tasked with grounding national policy in world-class evidence. Led by Chief Scientific Adviser (CSA) Professor Chris Johnson, the College provides impartial, strategic advice on the technologies that will define the UK’s future—from AI and Quantum to Semiconductors and Space. If you are a mid-to-late career leader in STEM, social sciences, or the humanities, this is a unique opportunity to apply your expertise for the public good and shape the UK’s research and innovation landscape.
The Opportunity
As a member of the College, you will be a “critical friend” to the government. You will contribute roughly 5 days per year on a flexible, remote basis. While the role is unpaid, it offers high-level visibility in government decision-making, access to an elite cross-sector network, and a chance to influence the direction of national programmes. Your tenure will typically last 18 months, aligning with the CSA’s term, with the possibility of extension.
