Job Description
Support vulnerable patients and earn as a self-employed Driver Companion with OnCue Transport in London. You’ll provide safe, caring non-emergency transport to and from medical appointments, offering reassurance, assistance with mobility and a consistently dignified experience throughout every journey.
Role Overview
As a Driver Companion, you’ll work mainly day shifts Monday to Friday, with some weekend availability, transporting patients to NHS and private hospitals and clinics across London and beyond. You’ll manage pick-ups and drop-offs, escort patients to the correct ward or back home, and ensure they are settled safely.
You’ll use app-based systems to receive bookings, complete vehicle and equipment checks, follow infection control procedures and report any safeguarding concerns. This self-employed role offers strong earning potential (from £450 per week), flexibility and the opportunity to make a meaningful difference every day.
Key Responsibilities
- Transport patients to and from non-emergency medical appointments across London and the wider UK
- Work as a single or double crew to assist patients with varying mobility needs, including wheelchair use
- Ensure patients are collected on time and safely delivered to the correct ward, clinic or home address
- Provide a calm, friendly and reassuring presence, especially for anxious or socially isolated patients
- Follow all COVID and PPE protocols, infection control processes and vehicle hygiene standards
- Carry out daily vehicle inspections and equipment checks; complete a wipe-down after every patient
- Drive safely and legally at all times, in full accordance with the Highway Code
- Take responsibility for patient wellbeing from receipt of booking to safe handover at destination
- Assist with safe movement and seating of patients, respecting dignity and independence
- Report safeguarding issues, incidents or concerns promptly to the appropriate team
- Adhere to all health and safety, data protection and company procedures
- Use OnCue’s app-based systems to manage journeys, record activity and communicate with operations
Skills and Experience
- Clean, full UK driving licence
- Professional driving experience and/or strong confidence driving in London and surrounding areas
- Good communication skills, with the ability to engage sensitively with patients and healthcare staff
- Comfortable using smartphone or tablet-based apps for job allocation and reporting
- Reliable team player with a flexible approach to hours, including some weekends
- Able to work independently, make sound judgments and stay calm under pressure
- Reasonable physical fitness to assist patients with limited mobility and handle equipment
- Good command of spoken and written English; additional languages are an advantage
- Willing to undergo and pass an enhanced DBS check (safeguarding role)
- Positive, caring attitude and a genuine desire to help others while earning
