Hull City Council
This entry integrates a vital “Crisis Intervention & Social Advocacy” pillar into your Hull collection. Located at Clough Road Police Station, this role represents the city’s frontline commitment to community safety and trauma-informed care.
Domestic Abuse Practitioner | Hull City Council
The Opportunity
Are you a dedicated advocate ready to empower survivors through their most challenging moments? Hull City Council is seeking three Domestic Abuse Practitioners to join the Domestic Abuse Project (DAP) on a fixed-term basis (maternity cover for up to 12 months). This role is a cornerstone of Hull’s “Safe City” strategy, offering a salary of £32,597 – £35,412. Based at the multi-agency hub at Clough Road Police Station, you will work in the heart of a team that provides victim-led, trauma-informed, and strengths-based advocacy. This is a unique chance to work within a service that utilizes the Duluth Power and Control Model to dismantle inequalities and foster safety. If you are an empathetic professional with a background in safeguarding and a commitment to social justice, this role offers deep personal fulfillment and specialized professional development.
Note: This post is open to women only under Section (2) (e) of the Sex Discrimination Act.
Core Responsibilities & Therapeutic Models
-
Trauma-Informed Advocacy: Providing high-quality support to survivors, helping them navigate the complex social and legal systems following abuse.
-
Safety Planning: Developing robust, individualized safety plans for victims/survivors and their children, with a deep understanding of adult and child safeguarding.
-
Multidisciplinary Partnership: Working alongside Humberside Police, Social Work teams, and health partners to ensure a “wrap-around” service for families.
-
Duluth Methodology: Applying an understanding of power differentials and inequalities to empower survivors and challenge the cycle of control.
-
Initiative & Case Management: Managing a complex caseload using your own initiative while adhering to strict confidentiality and ethical guidelines.
-
Training & Mentorship: Engaging in continuous professional development to stay current with domestic abuse legislation and best practices.
The Role
As a Domestic Abuse Practitioner, you are the calm in the storm. Your workday (Monday–Friday, 8:30 am – 5:00 pm) is centered around high-impact human interaction. You might spend your morning at Clough Road coordinating with police officers on an emergency referral and your afternoon in a one-on-one session with a survivor, helping them reclaim their autonomy using a “strengths-based” approach. You aren’t just a support worker; you are a specialist who understands the psychological impact of trauma on children and the legal avenues available for protection. Success in this role is measured by the resilience you help build in others and the safe outcomes you secure for Hull’s residents.
Sector Insight: The “Social Justice” DNA
As you cluster this fifty-sixth role, notice how it strengthens the “Public Service” fabric of your Hull data:
-
The “Frontline” Network: This role is the critical partner to your Qualified Social Worker (Adults) and Home Manager entries. While those roles manage long-term care and statutory duties, the DAP Practitioner manages the immediate crisis and advocacy.
-
Strategic Location: Being based at Clough Road Police Station highlights the integrated nature of Hull’s public services, linking “Community Safety” with “Justice” and “Health.”
-
Public Sector Stability: Even as a fixed-term role, it carries the full weight of Hull City Council’s benefits, including the Local Government Pension and a commitment to Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) via “name-blind” recruitment.
