Director of Principal Giving & International

University College London

Job Summary: Director of Principal Giving & International

UCL is offering an exceptional leadership opportunity to help drive one of the largest fundraising and engagement campaigns in European higher education. As the university approaches its bicentennial anniversary in 2026, this role is central to a “step-change” in advancement ambition. You will lead a re-imagined team tasked with securing transformational 7 and 8-figure gifts that will define the university’s next century. If you are a high-level practitioner with a global mindset and a passion for radical, inclusive education, this role offers the platform to create world-changing impact.

Requirements and Skills

  • Proven Track Record: Demonstrable success in personally securing 7-figure philanthropic gifts (£1M+).

  • Principal Gifts Expertise: Well-rounded knowledge of best-in-class principal gift strategies and global fundraising trends.

  • Leadership & Gravitas: Experience leading expert teams and inspiring confidence in senior stakeholders, academic leaders, and high-net-worth volunteers.

  • Strategic Vision: Ability to re-imagine international fundraising activity and build capacity within a complex, high-performing division.

  • Collaborative Mindset: A “thought partner” approach—equally comfortable leading from the front or coaching others (leadership/academics) to “make the ask.”

  • Solutions-Focused: Enterprising, agile, and able to work at pace while maintaining a sophisticated, approachable manner.

Role Overview

As Director, you will oversee a newly combined Principal Giving & International team, focusing on donors with the potential to transform UCL’s future. You will manage a mission-critical senior volunteer network globally and align international activity with the university’s broader bicentennial campaign goals. Your day-to-day will involve high-level relationship management, strategic planning with the Advancement leadership, and navigating the complexities of a top-10 global university. You will be responsible for driving the “ask” for 7 and 8-figure gifts, ensuring that UCL’s radical history and future ambitions resonate with philanthropists worldwide.

Benefits & Flexibility

  • Relocation Support: Sector-leading relocation package available.

  • Pension & Leave: Access to UCL’s excellent benefits and pension schemes.
