Job Description

Tetra Tech RPS is seeking a high-caliber Director to lead our Geo-environmental Team and spearhead the growth of our ground engineering business in the UK. This is a strategic, influential appointment following the 2023 merger of RPS and Tetra Tech—a global powerhouse with 30,000 employees.

You will be tasked with guiding a team of 15 specialists across England and Wales into new markets and service offerings. This role is a “player-leader” position, requiring a blend of top-tier technical expertise in geo-environmental engineering, a sharp commercial mind for business development, and the leadership gravitas to mentor the next generation of associates and principals.


Key Accountability Pillars

1. Strategic Business Development

You will drive growth by identifying emerging markets and innovating service offerings.

  • Proactive Engagement: Identify new clients and build strategic partnerships.

  • Collaboration: Work across the wider Tetra Tech group to cross-sell services in water, infrastructure, and clean energy.

  • Balanced Delivery: Maintain a 50% billable target, leading from the front on high-profile projects.

2. Leadership & Team Management

You will oversee a 15-person multi-disciplinary team with 4 direct reports (Associates and Principals).

  • Performance Culture: Lead professional development and performance management to ensure technical excellence.

  • Strategic Oversight: Align team structure with long-term business goals and project requirements across England and Wales.

3. Client & Financial Stewardship

Reporting to the Operational Director, you will hold full P&L accountability for your business unit.

  • Relationship Management: Act as a senior advisor for key accounts, ensuring high-quality delivery across complex multi-disciplinary projects.

  • Financial Oversight: Manage revenue, profit targets, cash flow, and team utilization metrics.


Your Toolkit for Success

  • Experience: Substantial senior-level experience in Geo-environmental Engineering and Ground Engineering.

  • Commercial Acumen: Proven track record in business development and launching innovative service offerings.

  • Quality & Compliance: Expert knowledge of UK regulatory standards and internal Quality Assurance (QA) processes.

  • Technical Depth: Ability to oversee complex site investigations, risk assessments, and remediation strategies.

As Director, you will oversee the delivery of critical ground engineering services that enable safe and sustainable development:

  • Contaminated Land Assessment: Leading the investigation of brownfield sites to identify chemical risks.

  • Geotechnical Design: Advising on foundation solutions and earthworks for major infrastructure.

  • Environmental Compliance: Ensuring projects meet stringent UK environmental legislation and net-zero targets.
