Design Researcher (12-Month Fixed-Term Contract)

Join Lloyds Banking Group, home to one of the UK’s largest and most sophisticated Design Research communities. With a team of over 70 specialists—ranging from ethnographers and quantitative experts to accessibility champions—we don’t just “do research”; we shape the future of banking.

This specific role is embedded within our Segments & Propositions (Private Banking) division in London. As the senior researcher for this squad, you will lead the charge in understanding the unique needs of our most affluent and complex customer groups. You will work in a high-maturity, multi-disciplinary environment alongside designers, product owners, and engineers to ensure our Private Banking services are intuitive, impactful, and inclusive.

Your Strategic Impact

  • End-to-End Leadership: Own the research roadmap for Private Banking, moving seamlessly between generative research (unlocking new opportunities) and evaluative research (testing concepts and usability).

  • Niche Audience Expertise: Lead co-creation and ethnographic studies with high-net-worth individuals—a niche and often “hard-to-reach” group—to uncover deep-seated financial behaviors and goals.

  • Triangulation & Synthesis: Combine qualitative insights (depth interviews, diary studies) with quantitative data (surveys, analytics) to tell compelling customer stories that influence executive-level strategy.

  • Collaborative Sense-Making: Foster a culture of “shared discovery” by involving your squad in note-taking, observation, and insight synthesis.

  • Strategic Roadmapping: Set the short-term objectives and long-term strategic direction for your product area, ensuring research questions are prioritized to drive the highest business and customer value.

What You Bring to the Squad

  • Mixed-Methods Mastery: Deep experience in qualitative techniques (contextual inquiry, concept testing) paired with a solid ability to run and analyze quantitative studies.

  • Private Banking/High-End Service Experience: Proven success in recruiting and researching niche customer segments.

  • Influencing Skills: The “gravitas” to present insights in an impactful, actionable way that shifts stakeholder perspectives.

  • Storytelling: Ability to synthesize complex data from multiple sources into clear, human-centric narratives.

  • Community Spirit: A willingness to mentor others and contribute to our wider Design Research and Analytics community.
