Job Description
Teenage Kicks, a specialist independent school for pupils with EHCPs and diverse learning needs, is looking for a practical, creative, and resilient educator. This role is far from a standard classroom position; our DT provision focuses on real-world vocational skills, helping young people with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs build confidence through tangible success in woodwork, electronics, and digital design.
Role Overview

Hours: 15 hours per week (3 hours per day).

Contract: Part-time, term-time only (plus 5 INSET days).

Salary: £9,375 – £14,250 per year (pro rata).

Start Date: September 2025.

Class Context: Small class sizes at Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4.
Key Responsibilities

Practical Instruction: Lead engaging projects in woodwork, basic electronics, and computer-based design.

Workshop Safety: Maintain a calm, structured, and safe environment conducive to focused hands-on work.

EHCP Integration: Adapt teaching methods to align with individual EHCP outcomes and support students with complex trauma histories.

Mentorship: Use a relational approach to manage behavior, fostering pride and problem-solving skills in pupils who may have struggled in mainstream settings.

Culture: Contribute actively to a trauma-informed school culture that prioritizes second chances and inclusive education.
What We Are Looking For

Qualifications: QTS or QTLS is desirable, but we welcome experienced, unqualified teachers or vocational specialists with a strong track record.

Technical Skills: Proficiency with hand tools and basic electrical circuits. While CAD/CAM machines are not used, familiarity with digital design platforms is required.

Approach: A calm, patient, and highly resilient nature. You must be able to build strong relationships with vulnerable young people.

Experience: Previous experience in a school or vocational setting, particularly with SEND/SEMH learners, is highly advantageous.
