Job overview

University Hospital Bristol NHS foundation Trust wishes to appoint maternity cover for a Consultant Dermatologist in the Bristol Royal Infirmary (BRI). The post will involve working alongside our existing highly motivated team of Dermatologists who deliver care to the population of Bristol and the surrounding area. Applicants wishing to work less than full time are encouraged to apply.

The post holder will be based at the Bristol Dermatology Centre in the BRI and the role may include sessions at Weston General Hospital or South Bristol Community Hospital. The Department is looking to recruit a consultant whose schedule will include set days working from the dermatology centre to provide the service stability for the clinical workforce, resident doctors and large specialist nurse teams. Our current team of dermatologists includes consultants; and an Associate Specialist, supported by speciality resident doctors and clinical fellows. The Bristol Dermatology Department is a large teaching hospital providing a full range of dermatology services for the local population as well as a regional service in paediatric, phototherapy, contact dermatitis, skin lymphoma and nail disease. As part of an undergraduate and postgraduate teaching trust, we are one of the regional training centres for dermatology.

Main duties of the job

The Bristol Dermatology Centre is a self-contained facility including a phototherapy suite, contact dermatitis suit, treatment area, skin surgery day case theatres, administration and consultant offices. The Dermatology Department provides a full range of services to the local population of Bristol and adjacent areas.

Qualifications & Training

Essential criteria

Full and specialist registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) in Dermatology or

eligible for specialist registration within six months of interview or

Holder of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or evidence of within six months of award of CCT or equivalent by date of interview

Desirable criteria

Higher academic qualification eg MSc, MD, PhD

Experience

Essential criteria

Evidence of thorough and broad training and experience in dermatology

Able to take responsibility for delivering service without direct supervision

Desirable criteria

Evidence of a special interest and expertise that complements those of other consultants in the department and is consistent with the Trust’s service strategy

Knowledge & Skills

Essential criteria

Up to date knowledge and experience of dermatology

Knowledge of NHS priorities with reference to dermatology

Desirable criteria

Broad range of IT skills

Clinical Governance & Audit

Essential criteria

Understanding of clinical governance and the individual responsibilities it implies

Knowledge of the principles of clinical audit and evidence of participation

Positive approach to evidence based practice
