Data Scientist

The Citation Group

Job description

The Citation Group is looking for a commercially-minded Data Scientist to join our growing AI team in Wilmslow. In this role, you’ll do more than just build models; you’ll solve real-world business challenges by predicting customer churn, scoring sales leads, and personalizing the client experience. You’ll be joining an established environment with a mature data warehouse and dedicated ML Engineering support, allowing you to focus on the full project lifecycle from initial hypothesis to production-ready solutions. If you enjoy seeing your work move the needle on business metrics rather than just optimizing for theoretical accuracy, this flexible hybrid role is built for you.

Key Skills

  • Experience working in an analytical or data science role, or a postgraduate degree in Statistics, Data Science, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related quantitative field.

  • Strong proficiency in Python for data analysis and model development.

  • Excellent knowledge of how to apply machine learning and statistical techniques to solve business problems such as classification, regression, clustering, and time-series forecasting.

  • Experience working with large, complex, and often imperfect datasets – you’re comfortable with data wrangling and know that most of the work happens before you train a model.

  • Great communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to a non-technical audience and translate business problems into analytical approaches.

  • A commercial mindset – you care about whether your work actually makes a difference to the business, not just whether the model metrics look good.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.

  • Familiarity with SQL and working with data warehouses.

  • Experience delivering data science solutions into production environments.

  • Familiarity with MLOps practices, version control, and reproducible workflows.

  • Knowledge of techniques for analysing unstructured data such as text (NLP) and an interest in how large language models are changing the field.

  • Experience with experimentation design, A/B testing, or causal inference methods.

  • Experience working in a commercial B2B setting.

  • Experience with BI and reporting tools such as Power BI or Tableau.

Working alongside Senior Data Scientists and AI Implementation specialists, you will help bridge the gap between complex data and actionable insights. Whether you’re designing A/B tests to measure the impact of new initiatives or using NLP to analyze call transcripts, your contribution will directly influence how we support SMEs across the UK. We pride ourselves on a culture free of office politics where ownership and collaboration are the norms. If you’re a curious problem-solver who wants to deploy models that provide continuous, automated value, we’d love to have you on the team.
