Senior Officer Corporation Tax Specialist – HMRC

We are looking for a high-level Corporation Tax Specialist to join our team—someone who can navigate complex legislation, identify tax risks, and contribute to work that makes a real difference to the nation’s economy.
About the Role
As a Senior Officer, you will be a technical authority within the Corporation Tax (CT) team. Your work focuses on “Large Business” customers, where you will interpret complex financial accounts and tax computations to identify areas of legislative error or non-compliance. You aren’t just reviewing data; you are a strategic investigator. You will collaborate with Customer Compliance Managers (CCMs) to gather evidence, resolve technical challenges, and develop innovative strategies to reduce the national Tax Gap. This role is a blend of deep technical analysis, relationship management, and visible leadership.
Key Responsibilities

Risk Identification: Assess complex financial data and risk indicators to spot emerging CT threats in the largest business populations.

Technical Leadership: Effectively interpret legislation and case law, providing expert advice to internal teams and mentoring colleagues to build wider CT capability.

Stakeholder Management: Manage challenging conversations with external customers and collaborate across multidisciplinary HMRC teams to reach sound compliance outcomes.

Investigation & Analysis: Lead investigations into complex tax positions, applying logical reasoning to reach evidence-based conclusions.

Communication: Draft professional, accurate technical communications that explain complex tax topics in accessible language for various audiences.

Continuous Improvement: Propose proactive solutions for process improvements and stay updated on the ever-changing legal landscape.
Essential Criteria

In-depth CT Knowledge: A strong background in Corporation Tax, with active experience in a CT environment within the last two years.

Analytical Prowess: Demonstrable experience in analyzing complex financial scenarios to identify patterns or risks.

Communication Skills: Ability to build productive relationships and manage contentious or sensitive technical dialogues effectively.

Problem-Solving: Proven track record of applying technical knowledge to real-world scenarios to resolve technical challenges.
