Job Description
Compliance Manager – Kent
Michael Taylor Search & Selection Ltd is seeking an experienced Compliance Manager to develop, implement, and refine the sustainability strategy for a thriving main contractor based in Kent. The business operates across new-build, cut & carve refurbishment, fit-out, and major structural modifications for residential and commercial schemes. This role is pivotal in shaping compliance and environmental performance across diverse projects.
Key Responsibilities:

Develop, implement, and maintain the compliance framework for legislation, company policy, and client requirements across construction, refurbishment, fit-out, and cut & carve projects.

Lead sustainability strategy, including carbon and energy reduction, waste minimisation, circular economy initiatives, ethical procurement, and community/social value programmes.

Collaborate with project teams to embed and monitor sustainability and compliance targets effectively.

Conduct site visits in London to advise and ensure compliance and sustainability performance.

Collect, analyse, and report KPIs such as energy usage, waste volumes, emissions, social value outputs, and other sustainability metrics to senior management and clients.

Support business development by embedding compliance and sustainability into bids, contracts, and pre-construction processes.

Maintain registers, documentation, and audit trails; train and support project teams in best practices.

Provide training and guidance to staff and subcontractors on environmental legislation, compliance requirements, and sustainability best practices.
Skills & Experience Required:
-
Proven experience in compliance, sustainability, or environmental management within the built environment (construction, fit-out, refurbishment, or related sectors).

Strong knowledge of UK environmental legislation and construction-industry sustainability frameworks.

Excellent analytical, organisational, and communication skills.
-
Self-motivated, proactive, and solution-oriented; able to travel regularly between Kent office and London/site locations (travel paid).
Desirable:

Experience in a main-contractor environment, particularly commercial, residential, or cut & carve/refurbishment delivery.

Familiarity with sustainability certification schemes (e.g., BREEAM, LEED) and compliance standards (e.g., ISO 14001, ISO 45001).
