Community Outreach Volunteer (W London) – Volunteer

Help Counselling

Volunteer Summary: Community Outreach Volunteer (W London)

Help Counselling is a small but impactful charity dedicated to providing low-cost, high-quality mental health support. As the organization lacks a central physical office, they rely on local ambassadors to bridge the gap between their consulting rooms and the people who need them most. In this rewarding volunteer role, you will act as a vital link in West London, breaking down barriers to mental health care—such as cost and cultural stigma—while building a network of supporters and partners to ensure the charity’s long-term sustainability.

Requirements and Skills

  • Local Insight: Must live in, work in, or have extensive networks within Kensington & Chelsea, Westminster, or Hammersmith & Fulham.

  • Professional Background: At least 3 years’ experience in marketing, communications, campaigning, fundraising, or events.

  • Communication: Confident, articulate, and able to represent the charity professionally to diverse audiences.

  • Soft Skills: Reliable, proactive, and capable of managing your own schedule with minimal supervision.

  • Tech Literacy: Basic IT skills for email and online record-keeping.

  • Advocacy: A genuine passion for mental health awareness and reducing the stigma of seeking help.

  • Desirable: Public speaking experience, knowledge of local health inequalities, or lived experience of counselling.

Role Overview

Reporting directly to the CEO, you will serve as a local ambassador across your designated borough. Your mission is twofold: ensuring individuals in need know how to access affordable counselling and forging strategic relationships with local partners and donors. You will spend your time mapping out community groups, attending local events, and distributing promotional materials to high-impact locations. By gathering feedback on local barriers to care, you will also provide the central team with the insights needed to refine their service accessibility and local marketing strategies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Relationship Building: Establish and maintain ties with local charities, faith groups, and community organizations.

  • Promotion: Distribute physical marketing materials and share digital information across local social media groups.

  • Public Representation: Deliver brief talks or presentations to local groups about Help Counselling’s mission (training provided).

  • Intelligence Gathering: Stay informed on local demographics and community needs, flagging opportunities or risks to the CEO.

  • Liaison: Act as the first point of contact for local partnership enquiries and signpost potential clients to the central intake team.

Why Volunteer?

This is a “hands-on” opportunity to use your professional marketing or networking skills for a cause that acts as a literal lifeline for many. You will have the flexibility to manage your own time while making a measurable impact on the mental wellbeing of your own community.
