Cleaning Operative

Job Description

Help keep a major London hospital clean, safe and welcoming as a Cleaning Operative with Mitie in Tooting. You’ll deliver planned and periodic cleaning to healthcare standards, making a real difference to patients, visitors and staff in a busy clinical environment.

Role Overview

Based at St George’s University of London Hospital, you’ll work 15 hours per week, Monday to Friday, following agreed cleaning schedules. You’ll take responsibility for your own areas, using equipment and chemicals correctly, and work as part of a supportive soft services team to meet SLAs and infection-control standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out routine and periodic cleaning in wards, corridors, offices and clinical/non-clinical areas
• Follow site cleaning schedules and colour-coding to maintain hygiene and safety
• Use cleaning machinery and approved chemicals in line with training and Mitie procedures
• Dispose of waste safely and correctly, supporting infection prevention and control
• Check your work area is ready for use at the end of each shift
• Build positive relationships with hospital staff and visitors, delivering excellent customer service
• Work to Quality, Safety, Health and Environmental policies at all times
• Suggest improvements where you see opportunities to enhance service delivery

About You

• Experience in healthcare or commercial cleaning is desirable, but full training can be provided
• Reliable, hardworking and professional, with pride in your work
• Able to follow schedules and work both independently and as part of a team
• Comfortable in a physically active role, including standing, bending and light lifting
• Good awareness of hygiene and willingness to learn about Health & Safety and COSHH
• Right to work in the UK
