Claims Executive – Howden (Edinburgh or Glasgow)

Howden is a global insurance group with a “no-limits” mindset and a unique culture of employee ownership. We are looking for a high-caliber Claims Executive to join our established Corporate & Commercial team in Scotland. At Howden, we don’t just process claims; we act as fierce advocates for our clients, helping them navigate complex risks and uncertainty. If you are a seasoned claims professional who values autonomy, collaboration, and the opportunity to mentor the next generation of talent, we want to talk to you.

About the Role

As a Claims Executive, you will lead the end-to-end claims process for our brokerage clients. While you will oversee claims of all sizes, your expertise will be critical in managing large, complex, or contentious losses. You are not desk-bound; you will visit clients in person during significant losses to investigate circumstances and build robust cases. This role is about advocacy—negotiating with insurers to secure the best possible settlement terms and ensuring our clients feel supported through every step of a distressing situation.

Key Responsibilities

  • End-to-End Management: Managing the full claims lifecycle, focusing on high-value and complex corporate claims.

  • Advocacy & Negotiation: Acting as the client’s champion, negotiating aggressively with insurers and loss adjusters to achieve favorable outcomes.

  • On-Site Investigation: Visiting clients post-loss to gather evidence and investigate the surrounding circumstances of a claim.

  • Mentorship: Providing leadership and coaching to Claims Handlers and junior team members to foster a culture of excellence.

  • Data Strategy: Analyzing claims trends to develop risk mitigation strategies and improve overall management processes.

  • Stakeholder Relations: Building and maintaining strong links with brokers, legal representatives, and industry partners.

Requirements & Knowledge

  • Brokerage Experience: Essential background in a brokerage environment.

  • Technical Expertise: Comprehensive understanding of insurance policies, coverage types, and legal principles of insurance.

  • Relationship Management: Proven track record of managing senior client relationships and third-party vendors.

  • Analytical Skills: Ability to adjudicate complex claims and identify data-driven trends.

  • Compassionate Care: Experience in providing emotional support and guidance to clients during high-pressure or distressing events.

  • Qualifications: GCSE Maths and English are required; CII qualifications or Acturis exposure are highly desirable.

Why Join Howden?

We offer a career that you define, supported by a global team of 23,000 employees. Our “people-first” culture is the reason our talent stays, prioritizing work-life balance and sustainability.

  • Hybrid Working: Typically based in our Edinburgh or Glasgow offices 3 days per week.

  • Professional Growth: A culture that encourages bravery and trying new things, with clear paths for progression.

  • Supportive Environment: We provide reasonable adjustments—from IT setups to flexible hours—to ensure the role fits your needs.

  • Global Strength: Be part of an international powerhouse spanning 56 countries while maintaining a local, collaborative feel.
