The CCTV Operator monitors and manages York’s city surveillance system, ensuring safety, compliance, and accurate reporting in collaboration with local police.

Role Overview

• Operate and monitor CCTV systems within York City Centre.

• Support City of York Council and North Yorkshire Police in surveillance operations.

• Provide clear CCTV images and data for incident response.

Work Schedule

• Full-time, permanent position.

• 5 on, 5 off shift pattern.

• 12-hour night shifts.

• £12.25 per hour (approximately £25K–£42K annually).

Duties and Responsibilities

• Operate and monitor all CCTV systems efficiently and lawfully.

• Ensure compliance with legislation and operational standards (BS 7958:2005).

• Liaise with police, agencies, and staff to manage footage and evidence.

• Maintain accurate event logs and reports.

• Provide professional communication via radio and telephone.

• Report technical faults promptly to maximise system uptime.

• Maintain strict control room security and data integrity.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Valid SIA CCTV Licence (mandatory).

• Familiarity with York City Centre (desirable).

• Strong communication and customer service skills.

• Excellent organisational and multitasking abilities.

• High attention to detail and problem-solving ability.

• Reliability, honesty, and punctuality.

• NPPV2 vetting desirable but not required.

• Previous CCTV experience beneficial; full training provided.
