In this high-impact role, you will be the “engine room” of the hospital, ensuring that bed resources are managed efficiently to provide timely care for emergency, urgent, and elective patients. Working within the largest health academic campus in Europe, you will use our advanced Hive Electronic Patient Record (EPR) system to drive clinical excellence and innovation in patient movement.

  • Knowledge: Deep understanding of A&E government targets (e.g., the 4-hour standard) and factors affecting acute patient flow.

  • Communication: Exceptional interpersonal skills are essential for negotiating with various directorates and external Trusts.

  • Technical Literacy: Ability to use EPR systems (MFT uses “Hive”) to track and manage real-time bed capacity.

  • Decision Making: Ability to prioritize urgent and emergency admissions while maintaining a balance with elective surgical work.

  • Coordination: Experience in organizing internal transfers and managing repatriations between different NHS Trusts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Capacity Management: Actively monitor and manage bed availability across all hospital directorates.

  • Emergency Facilitation: Ensure the rapid placement of patients from the Emergency Department into appropriate specialty beds.

  • Inter-hospital Liaison: Coordinate the movement of patients being transferred to or from other healthcare providers.

  • Data Reporting: Identify and escalate barriers to discharge or flow to the Lead Bed Manager and Matron for Patient Flow.

  • Multidisciplinary Collaboration: Work alongside clinicians, site managers, and social care teams to expedite safe patient discharges.

Why Join MFT?
