Bank support worker – Charitable programmes

National Autistic Society

Job Description

Are you looking for a flexible role where you can make a tangible difference in the lives of autistic people? The National Autistic Society is seeking compassionate and reliable Bank Support Workers to join our purpose-built Randalstown Centre.

As a Bank Support Worker, you are the backbone of our “Support for Life” mission. Unlike a fixed-contract role, being part of our “Bank” team means you have the freedom to pick and choose the shifts that fit your lifestyle, including days, evenings, and weekends. You will work within a dual-service model, supporting adults with complex needs during the day and facilitating vibrant youth clubs, mentoring, and family sessions during the evenings and weekends. Your goal is simple but profound: to follow support plans that empower autistic individuals to live their best, most independent lives.

Your Impact and Responsibilities

  • Empowerment: Assist participants by adapting activities to their unique needs, fostering independence and overall wellbeing.

  • Relationship Building: Develop and maintain strong, trust-based connections with autistic individuals and their families.

  • Activity Delivery: Help plan and execute social activities, skills programmes, and stay-and-play sessions.

  • Safeguarding: Actively promote the welfare of children and adults, ensuring a safe and inclusive environment at all times.

What We Are Looking For

  • Attitude: A positive, “can-do” approach with a genuine desire to support vulnerable people.

  • Experience: While previous experience with autism is helpful, it is not essential. We value lived experience and a passion for helping others above all.

  • Requirements: You must be willing to undergo an Access NI criminal background check (cost covered by us). A driving licence (held for at least one year) is preferred.

  • Diversity: We particularly welcome applications from autistic individuals. We are a Disability Confident Employer.

Why Join Us?

  • Flexibility: Complete control over your working schedule.

  • Training: Comprehensive induction and specialist autism-specific training.

  • Wellbeing: Access to a 24-hour Employee Assistance Programme and a free Headspace subscription for you and your family.

  • Perks: Eligibility for the Blue Light Card and an online discount scheme (Asda, Tesco, Apple, Nike, etc.).
