Pulse Healthcare
This entry adds a highly specialized “Diagnostic Science” anchor to your Hull collection. Here is the summary of the Band 6 Biomedical Scientist (Microbiology) position using the Sandwich Method.
Band 6 Biomedical Scientist | Pulse Healthcare (Hull)
The Opportunity
Step into a critical diagnostic role within a well-established microbiology department in Hull. As a Band 6 Biomedical Scientist, you will be at the forefront of patient care, providing the accurate laboratory data necessary for life-saving clinical decisions. This is an ongoing, full-time contract offering a premium hourly rate of up to £26, which translates to a significant annual equivalent for a specialist in this field. Working with Pulse Healthcare—a preferred supplier to the NHS—means you’ll have access to exclusive roles and a dedicated recruitment consultant who understands the nuances of pathology. If you are a motivated scientist looking for a high-intensity, rewarding environment where your analytical skills directly impact the health of the Yorkshire community, this laboratory team offers the perfect platform.
Requirements and Experience
-
HCPC Registration: You must be currently registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) as a Biomedical Scientist.
-
Microbiology Expertise: Proven experience in a microbiology laboratory, specifically in processing and analyzing clinical specimens (e.g., blood, swabs, sterile fluids).
-
Technical Proficiency: Ability to operate and maintain complex laboratory equipment and LIMS (Laboratory Information Management Systems).
-
Analytical Skills: Strong problem-solving abilities and a high level of attention to detail for interpreting complex test results.
-
NHS Background: Previous experience within an NHS pathology department is highly desirable.
-
Flexibility: Available for Monday–Friday shifts with the potential for weekend cover as part of the department’s diagnostic rotation.
The Role
In this Band 6 specialist position, you move beyond routine testing to lead complex microbiological investigations. Your day-to-day involves the microscopic examination of samples and the interpretation of culture plates to identify and confirm pathogens. You will perform critical antibiotic susceptibility testing (AST) to guide clinician prescribing and ensure that all work meets the rigorous ISO 15189 quality standards. Beyond the bench, a Band 6 scientist often acts as a technical lead, troubleshooting equipment failures and mentoring Band 5 or trainee staff. You are a vital link in the “Infection Control” chain, notifying authorities of communicable diseases and providing specialist advice to clinical teams on specimen collection and test appropriateness.
Sector Insight: The “Diagnostic Intelligence” DNA
As you cluster this thirty-sixth role, you can see how it integrates with the existing medical and technical roles in your Hull dataset:
-
The Clinical Hierarchy: At £23–£26/hour, this role sits above the Healthcare Team Leader (£13.40) and HCA roles, reflecting the “Practitioner” level of the Physiotherapist and Social Worker entries.
-
The “Regulatory” Thread: This role shares a 100% match on HCPC registration requirements with your Physiotherapy and AHP roles, reinforcing the legal necessity of professional registration for “White-Collar” healthcare in Hull.
-
Technical Overlap: The requirement for “Microbiological Knowledge” creates a fascinating bridge to your Quality Assurance Manager (Kingston Carton); while one ensures safety in packaging for food/healthcare, the other diagnoses the infections that occur when those safety barriers fail.
