Band 3 Healthcare Support Worker – RACE Clinic
University Hospitals Dorset (UHD) is seeking a motivated and compassionate Healthcare Support Worker to join the Rapid Access Consultant Evaluation (RACE) Clinic. This nationally recognized Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) service is designed specifically for older patients, allowing them to receive expert assessment and diagnosis without the need for hospital admission. As an integral part of this Advanced Clinical Practitioner (ACP)-led team, you will help bridge the gap between emergency medicine and geriatric care, ensuring our senior patients receive dignified and efficient treatment.

Logistics: Ability to safely convey patients to various diagnostic departments (Radiology, Pathology) across the hospital site.

Flexibility: Willingness to adapt to service changes as UHD transforms services under the New Hospital Programme.

Key Responsibilities

Same Day Care Support: Assist in the rapid assessment and management of older patients referred from GPs or the Emergency Department.

Patient Flow: Facilitate the smooth movement of patients through the clinic to ensure discharge occurs the same day whenever possible.

ACP Support: Work directly under the supervision of Advanced Clinical Practitioners, carrying out delegated clinical tasks.

Diagnostics: Escort patients to and from diagnostic tests, ensuring their safety and comfort during transit.

Environment: Maintain a clean, welcoming, and clinical environment suitable for elderly care.

Vital Information

Salary: Band 3 (Agenda for Change).

Hours: Full-time, currently Monday–Friday, 09:00–17:00 (ideal for work-life balance).

Location: Initially based at Poole Hospital, with a planned transfer to the Royal Bournemouth Hospital (RBH) site following the Trust merger.
