job description

A boutique and forward-thinking M&E Design Consultancy in Birmingham is seeking a Mechanical Associate to join its senior leadership team. This is a rare, high-stakes appointment for a professional who wants more than just a salary; the firm is offering equity and shares, giving you a genuine stake in the business’s future. You will be instrumental in driving the consultancy forward, working with a portfolio of creative clients who are actively reshaping the West Midlands skyline through innovative and sustainable architecture.

Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership: Act as a key member of the senior team, influencing the development, progression, and operational strategy of the business.

  • Technical Excellence: Provide technical leadership in HVAC and mechanical building services, ensuring cutting-edge solutions for complex projects.

  • Full Lifecycle Management: Lead mechanical design projects from initial inception and feasibility through to final completion and handover.

  • Key Account Management: Build and maintain deep-rooted relationships with “design innovator” clients and industry partners.

  • Coordination: Manage multidisciplinary teams and streamline client coordination across all project stages.

Experience & Technical Skills

  • Proven Track Record: Extensive experience in mechanical design specifically within the UK building services sector.

  • Software Proficiency: Advanced user of industry-standard design software; experience with Revit is highly advantageous for BIM-integrated projects.

  • Sector Knowledge: Familiarity with the unique requirements of the West Midlands development market and local building regulations.

In this role, your voice is vital. You aren’t just managing projects; you are partnering with the industry’s most creative minds to input into future iconic developments. Your day-to-day will involve high-level project management, overseeing HVAC design integrity, and mentoring junior engineers. Because this role carries a path to ownership, you will focus heavily on quality delivery and the proactive identification of new business opportunities. Whether you are designing for high-rise residential, commercial hubs, or bespoke creative spaces, you will ensure that mechanical systems are efficient, sustainable, and seamlessly integrated into the building’s fabric.

Rewards and Benefits

  • Salary: Up to £75,000 (commensurate with experience).

  • Ownership Stake: Opportunity for Company Shares / Equity, providing long-term wealth creation.

  • Work-Life Balance: Hybrid working model with a “Flexible and Open” culture that values output over presenteeism.

  • Impact: A direct hand in the progression of a growing consultancy and the physical evolution of the Birmingham skyline.
