Job Description

Co-op Academy Belle Vue is seeking an exceptional senior leader for the role of Assistant Vice Principal – Behaviours, Attitudes and Attendance. Following our Ofsted ‘Outstanding’ (2024) judgment, we are looking for a strategic thinker to maintain and evolve our exemplary culture.

As a heavily oversubscribed start-up academy currently serving 960 students (projected to grow to 1,200), we pride ourselves on “The Belle Vue Difference.” This role is central to ensuring our pupils continue to demonstrate the mature, admirable attitudes to learning that define our community.


Key Responsibilities

  • Culture Leadership: Lead the strategic development of behavior and attitudes across the academy, ensuring high expectations are met by all students.

  • Attendance Strategy: Oversight of attendance and punctuality systems to ensure students remain engaged and present for their learning.

  • Inclusion & Wellbeing: Foster an environment where all students, including those with SEND, feel proud to attend and are supported to succeed.

  • Senior Leadership: Work as a key member of the SLT to provide vision and management, ensuring standards remain “Outstanding” in all areas.

  • Relationship Management: Build and maintain strong partnerships with parents and external stakeholders to support student welfare.

Managing behaviors and attendance at a senior level requires an understanding of regional and national benchmarks. At Belle Vue, we aim to exceed these standards:

  • National Attendance Trends: According to Department for Education (DfE) data for the 2023/24 academic year, the national overall absence rate in secondary schools was approximately 9.1%, with persistent absence (missing 10% or more sessions) affecting roughly 25.2% of pupils.

  • Disadvantaged Groups: Statistics show that pupils eligible for Free School Meals (FSM) often face higher barriers to attendance, with absence rates significantly higher than their non-eligible peers (approx. 13.1% vs 7.2%).
