Assistant Project Manager – (Energy and Power)

Jacobs

Job Description

At Jacobs, we are challenging today to reinvent tomorrow. Our Energy & Power division is at the forefront of the global energy transition, delivering cleaner, smarter, and more resilient infrastructure. Due to an increasing portfolio of world-class projects—ranging from offshore wind and hydrogen to nuclear SMRs and grid modernisation—we are expanding our team and seeking an ambitious Assistant Project Manager.

This is a foundational role for a professional looking to build a career in project management within a global network of expertise. You will work alongside industry-leading Project Managers to turn abstract green energy concepts into reality.

Role Overview

  • Position: Assistant Project Manager

  • Division: Energy & Power

  • Location: Hybrid (split between Jacobs offices/project sites and remote)

  • Sector Focus: Renewable Energy, Transmission & Distribution, BESS, and Power Systems.

Your Impact & Responsibilities

As an Assistant Project Manager, you will be involved across the entire project lifecycle, ensuring complex engineering projects are delivered safely, on time, and within budget.

  • Project Lifecycle Support: Support planning activities, including defining schedules, deliverables, and resource requirements from feasibility through to closeout.

  • Project Controls: Maintain rigorous monitoring and execution standards to ensure project transparency and efficiency.

  • Financial Management: Assist in tracking project budgets, managing financials, and processing change orders.

  • Risk & Governance: Support the identification and mitigation of project risks to ensure safe and predictable outcomes.

  • Cross-Functional Coordination: Act as a central point of collaboration between multidisciplinary engineering teams, design squads, and clients.

  • Stakeholder Engagement: Maintain consistent and clear communication with clients to manage expectations and report on progress.

What You’ll Need

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline.

  • Experience: Previous experience in project coordination or management, ideally within the Energy or Infrastructure sectors.

  • Analytical Skills: Strong ability to analyze project data, track progress, and solve complex problems.

  • Communication: Proven ability to manage stakeholders and coordinate diverse teams.

Why Join Jacobs?

We put people at the heart of our business, offering a culture founded on safety, integrity, and belonging.

  • Financial & Security: Competitive salary, up to 10% pension, and free medical and income protection insurance.

  • Work-Life Balance: 24 days holiday (with the option to buy 10 more) and flexible/hybrid working arrangements.

  • Global Growth: Access to a global network of expertise and “Jacobs Employee Networks” to find your community.

  • Inclusion: We are a Disability Confident Employer and champion diverse perspectives as a source of innovation.

The Global Energy Transition Context

The projects you will support are critical to international climate goals. The shift toward “Net Zero” requires a massive overhaul of existing infrastructure:

  • Grid Modernisation: Integrating intermittent renewables requires “smarter” grids and significant transmission upgrades.

  • Energy Storage: Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) are essential for balancing supply and demand.

  • Emerging Tech: Helping clients navigate the transition to Hydrogen and Small Modular Reactors (SMRs).
