Angel Meadow School
Job Description
Angel Meadow School is a brand-new independent special school in Manchester catering to students aged 11–16 with EHCPs. We serve a population with diverse SEND needs, with a specific focus on SEMH support. Our school is built on being small, nurturing, and ambitious, offering an environment where class sizes never exceed 5 pupils. We are looking for a passionate Art Teacher who can use creativity as a tool for engagement, helping our students rediscover their potential through artistic expression.
The Role
We are seeking a specialist who is comfortable adapting high-level creative concepts for learners with complex needs. This is a versatile role: full-time teachers will also lead a secondary subject area (such as Humanities, ICT, or Functional Skills) based on their personal strengths.
Key Responsibilities:
-
Creative Delivery: Plan and deliver high-quality Art lessons that explore various forms and techniques, fully differentiated to meet individual EHCP targets.
-
Dual-Subject Teaching: Lead a second subject area to ensure a broad and balanced curriculum for our small cohorts.
-
Accreditation: Guide pupils through appropriate pathways, including GCSE Art, Functional Skills, or Unit Awards.
-
Portfolio & Environment: Curate stimulating classroom displays and maintain high-quality portfolios of student work to celebrate achievement.
-
SEMH Support: Use trauma-informed and restorative approaches to support emotional regulation and behavior within the classroom and the Alternative Provision.
-
Progress Tracking: Monitor and report on academic and personal development progress, focusing on building student resilience and confidence.
What We Are Looking For
-
Creativity & Adaptability: A teacher who can pivot their lesson plan in the moment to meet the emotional or sensory needs of their students.
-
Subject Versatility: A specialist in Art with the confidence to teach a second subject area.
-
High Expectations: A belief that every child, regardless of their starting point, deserves access to a rich and inspiring curriculum.
-
Collaboration: A team player who will work closely with teaching assistants, parents, and external agencies to ensure a “joined-up” approach to support.
Why Join Angel Meadow School?
-
Establish Your Legacy: As a new school, you have the rare opportunity to establish the Art provision from the ground up.
-
Staff Wellbeing: We offer a genuine work-life balance with reduced marking and admin, smaller teaching teams, and a shorter working day (8:30–14:30) compared to mainstream settings.
-
Nurturing Ratios: A maximum of 5 pupils per class, supported by a strong team of TAs.
-
Professional Growth: Tailored CPD in SEND/SEMH and future leadership opportunities as the school expands.
-
Manchester Heart: Located in a vibrant central area with strong community and cultural links.
