Tameside College is seeking a skilled and motivated Assessor/Apprentice Skills Coach in Engineering to join our “Good” Ofsted-rated team in Ashton-Under-Lyne. This role is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Mechanical Engineer to transition from the workshop floor to the classroom, or for an established assessor seeking a new challenge. We are looking for someone with a strong background in traditional and CNC machining who is passionate about passing their expertise to the next generation of engineers.
Key Requirements and Skills

Trade Expertise: Must hold an NVQ Level 3 in Engineering with a Mechanical Engineering background.

Technical Skills: Hands-on experience or working knowledge of traditional and CNC machining.

Quality & Support: A sound understanding of inspection, quality control, and office-based engineering roles.

IT Literacy: Suitability for those with experience in technical support roles using various IT systems.

Basic Standards: Literacy and Numeracy qualifications at Level 2 or higher.

Personal Traits: Enthusiastic, resilient, and highly motivated team player with excellent communication skills.
Key Responsibilities

Deliver comprehensive training, assessment, and quality assurance for work-based learning programmes.

Align all activities with the college’s Apprenticeship Strategy to ensure high-quality, employer-focused provision.

Support learners through various methodologies to help them achieve qualifications and progress into sustained employment.

Monitor and verify learner progress in line with industry and awarding body standards.

Act as a “Skills Coach,” providing the guidance and motivation necessary to improve the life chances of all learners.
