Application Specialist

MKM Building Supplies

Application Specialist / Business Analyst | MKM Building Supplies (Hull)

The Opportunity

Join the UK’s leading independent builders’ merchant, a homegrown Hull success story that has grown to over 135 branches since 1995. MKM prides itself on its “MKM family” culture, offering a sense of belonging and support to its 3,200+ employees. This is a high-impact, “non-pigeonholed” role within the core of their business systems. You will have the autonomy to take a project from an initial business requirement through to a “hands-on” build and final delivery. With a competitive package, a generous discretionary bonus, and extensive benefits like holiday purchase schemes and financial planning support, this is an ideal role for a systems expert who wants to see their ideas become reality in a fast-growing, stable company.

Key Skills and Requirements

  • Experience and knowledge of order processing ERP systems at high volume.

  • Technical relational data expertise, including reporting and data manipulation (e.g., Excel, BI tools).

  • Strong analytical and process analysis skills to determine system needs via consultation and observation.

  • Excellent communicator, capable of bridging the gap between technical and non-technical colleagues.

  • Self-driven leader who can manage and track multiple projects/workstreams simultaneously.

  • Desirable: Experience with the K8 ERP system and knowledge of Builders’ Merchant operations.

  • Note: This is a systems delivery role, not a “code developer” or IT infrastructure support position.

The Role

As an Application Specialist, you will be the primary architect for solutions within and around MKM’s core ERP and wider business systems. Your day-to-day involves acting as the project principal—consulting with managers and end-users to specify requirements, then configuring customized solutions to meet them. You will use your technical expertise to create complex reports and workflows, ensuring seamless data flow across the organization. Beyond technical configuration, you will inspire and guide other specialists, troubleshoot existing solutions, and proactively bring new technological possibilities to the table to drive business efficiency.

Sector Insight: The ERP “Nerve Center”

As you cluster this twenty-fourth role, you can identify how it acts as a “connector” for your existing Hull data:

  • The K8 Connection: Mentioning K8 (a specific ERP for distributive trades) creates a “Supply Chain” link with your Mechanical Reliability Engineer (Cargill) and Sales Executive (Keepmoat) roles. All three are concerned with moving goods and maintaining asset data.

  • The “Business-Facing Tech” DNA: Unlike a pure IT role, this position requires “Commercial Awareness,” aligning it semantically with your Head of Business (Stratstone) and Recruitment Manager roles where understanding the bottom line is key to success.

  • Schedule Note: Working alternate Saturday mornings places this in a “Trade/Retail Hybrid” category, similar to the Sewell Group and Keepmoat entries.
