About the Role

Based at the Clarkston Campus, you will perform high-level skilled manual work involving the installation, repair, and overhauling of complex refrigeration, air conditioning, and heating systems. You will be responsible for the mechanical “heart” of our facilities, from monitoring delicate gauges to operating large-scale centrifugal and reciprocating chillers. This role requires a blend of technical expertise, physical agility, and a commitment to safety and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  • System Overhaul: Service and repair refrigeration and HVAC units by identifying and replacing worn or defective components.

  • Preventative Maintenance: Perform routine inspections, clean or replace oil and air filters, and ensure equipment longevity.

  • Leak Detection & Charging: Test units for refrigerant leaks and accurately add gas to systems as required by environmental standards.

  • Operational Monitoring: Monitor valves and gauges to ensure peak performance; adjust piping and pressure settings as needed.

  • Chiller Operation: Manage and operate both Centrifugal and Reciprocating chillers to maintain campus climate control.

  • Installation Support: Assist in the professional installation of new heating and cooling units and associated infrastructure.

  • Mentorship: Share your expertise by assisting in the training of lower-level maintenance employees.

Requirements & Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Education & Experience: * Technical or vocational degree plus 2 years of HVAC experience; OR

    • High school diploma/GED plus 4 years of HVAC experience; OR

    • An equivalent combination of education and related experience.

Preferred Skills:

  • Technical Knowledge: Deep familiarity with HVAC tools, procedures, and the ability to read and interpret complex blueprints and building drawings.

  • Physical Ability: Comfortable working at heights (rooftops), in confined spaces, and climbing ladders or scaffolds.

  • Manual Handling: Ability to lift approximately 50 pounds and perform skilled manual labor.

  • Communication: Effective oral and written communication skills for reporting and team collaboration.
