We are seeking a 2ic (Second in Charge) of Science—a visionary subject expert ready to support the Head of Department in maintaining the highest standards across all key stages, including our thriving Key Stage 5 provision. This role is a perfect stepping stone for an ambitious teacher aspiring to become a Head of Science or a Senior Leader in the near future.
The Core Purpose
As the 2ic of Science, your leadership will be divided into two critical pillars:

Academic Standards: Support the Head of Science in tracking and ensuring peak pupil achievement at KS3, KS4 (GCSE), and KS5 (A-Level).

Pedagogical Development: Lead, evaluate, and enhance the classroom practice of the Science team, ensuring that “Quality First Teaching” is the baseline for every lesson.
Key Responsibilities

KS5 Leadership: Teach and oversee elements of the Key Stage 5 curriculum, ensuring students are prepared for university-level science and beyond.

Team Coaching: Conduct lesson observations, provide constructive feedback, and facilitate departmental CPD to sustain effective teaching.

Curriculum Innovation: Help shape a forward-thinking curriculum that challenges students to think like scientists and subject experts.

Strategic Support: Assist in the day-to-day management of the department, from resource allocation to data analysis of student progress.
