Prison Officer – Doncaster Cluster (HMP Lindholme, Moorland, Hatfield)

About the Role
As a Prison Officer, no two days are the same. You will work directly with prisoners in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment, building constructive relationships even when individuals are at their lowest points. Your primary mission is to maintain a safe and secure establishment while acting as a role model for pro-social behavior. You will be assigned to a “cluster” of prisons in the Doncaster area, meaning you could be allocated to any of the three local sites. The role is physically active and requires a commitment to shift work, including evenings and weekends, to support the 24/7 operations of the prison estate.
Key Responsibilities

Safety & Security: Maintaining the custodial desk, conducting searches, and ensuring the physical integrity of the wing to keep staff and prisoners safe.

Relationship Building: Developing professional, constructive relationships with prisoners to manage behavior and support rehabilitation.

Conflict Resolution: Acting as a peacekeeper to de-escalate volatile situations using communication and influencing skills.

Individual Support: Acting as a first point of contact for prisoners, providing guidance, care, and understanding to those in crisis.

Shift Operations: Working a rotating pattern (typically 39 hours per week) that includes nights, weekends, and public holidays.

Administrative Duty: Recording observations and making effective decisions regarding prisoner progress and wing management.
Requirements & Skills (Essential Criteria)
Physical & Medical Standards:

Fitness: Must pass a medical and fitness assessment as the role is physically demanding.

Eyesight: Must meet the required eyesight standard in both eyes (with or without corrective lenses).

Hearing: Must meet a suitable standard of hearing without the use of hearing aids for safety reasons.

Age: At least 18 years old at the point of employment.

Must meet Civil Service Nationality requirements.

Visa Note: This role is not eligible for new Skilled Worker visas.

For Category A (High Security) work, you must have been a UK resident for the last 3 years.
Salary & Benefits

Starting Salary (39-hour week): £35,875 (includes 20% unsocial hours allowance).

37 hours: £33,746 | 41 hours: £38,003.

Pension: Exceptional Civil Service pension with employer contributions of 28.97%.
